UPSET PREVENTION & RECOVERY TRAINING

  • The Pro UPRT Course consists of 6 hours of ground lesson and minimum of 6 training flights in the EFIS equipped Extra 300L. The course covers upset avoidance and recovery, mirroring the same technique taught in large cabin aircraft. This course is recommended for professional pilots and can be customized to best meet the training needs of each pilot or operator including jet operations with traditional or fly-by-wire flight control systems.

  • The Pro UPRT AG Course consists of 6 hours of ground lesson and minimum of 6 training flights in the EFIS equipped Extra 300L. The course is focused on the upset avoidance and recovery needs of agricultural operations.

  • The Advanced UPRT course is 6 hours of ground and and 6 flights in the EFIS equipped Extra 300L. This course is designed for pilots who have previous UPRT experience like the Pro, Piston, or CFI Spin course, and are looking the additional challenge of additional all attitude instrument recovery and or more advanced maneuvers. This course may be customized to the needs of the pilot including concentration on IFR or VFR operations.

  • The UPRT Familiarization and Spin Course is 6 hours of ground and 6 flights in in the Extra 300L aircraft. This course covers spin and UPRT for piston pilots. This course can be customized for VFR only or IFR rated pilots.

  • The CFI Self Defense and Spin course is designed for CFIs and CFI candidates. The course meets the requirement of the CFI Spin Awareness Endorsement and is focused on teaching skills that mitigate risks that are specific to the training environment. This course covers both visual and instument upset prevetion and recovery.

Regulatory Guidance

According to research conducted by the Royal Aeronautical Society in partnership with ICAO, the CAA, and the FAA, Loss of Control In Flight (LOC-I) is still the leading cause of fatal aircraft accidents, and the only preventative measure is training. The findings from this study were used to produce ICAO Doc 10011 AN/506 First Addition - 2014 Manual on Aeroplane Upset Prevention and Recovery Training.

The training UPRT-USA provides is in compliance with and meets the training standards and recommendations found in ICAO Doc. 10011 and FAA order 120-111.

Methodical Approach

All courses use high quality ground training lessons that focus on the Mentality of Safety (ADM, CRM, and TEM); and Advanced Aerodynamics. Each ground lesson is followed by a corresponding flight lesson where a specific set of Advanced Handling Maneuvers are performed. These maneuvers reinforce the ground training and suppress Startle Effect, the normal adverse psychological reaction to upset.

Pilots are given time to build g tolerance and improve their advanced piloting skills at their individual pace. Then, when prepared, the pilot uses their skills to confidently recover from upset both visually and by reference to instruments.

UPRT-USA’s Upset Prevention and Recovery training results in safer aircraft operations and reduces the potential of an upset accident.
